Join UQRTC, UQDC, and UQLASA for this wonderful experience. Paint someone you’ve never met before, or paint a friend, and learn more about their story. Whether you’re turning strangers into friends, or strengthening your friendship bonds, we hope this event reminds you of the beauty of humanity.

About the event
Originally meant to be held on International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, our Paint and Sip event will now be held on World Refugee Day. This event is a fundraiser for the Romero Centre. For our event, we invite you to celebrate each other’s differences and similarities. We will foster inclusivity and celebrate the valuable contributions that person from every culture can make to society.
Our Artist:
Leading our session is Angi—a Venezolanean from Brisbane’s Romero Centre. Angi comes from an asylum seeker background, and she embraces inclusivity in her artworks. “The question echoing in my head,” Angi writes is “What does really make us human?”
More on the Romero Centre:
The Romero Centre was founded in 2000, and offers support to people seeking assulym in Brisbane. In Queensland alone there were 13 655 people seeking asulym onshore(Refugee Council of Australia). With the help of centre's like Romero Centre, asylum seekers living in Brisbane are able to get practical support (like food and shelter), legal connections, English classes, medical care, trauma counselling, community events and more (Romero Centre 2022).
Each individual ticket will be used to provide a small donation ( details of amounts in ticket description) to the Romero Centre, as we do our part to support refugees on World Refugee day.
Note: All proceeds will also be donated to the Romero Centre.
